Report Cards
- See our Calendar page for dates.
Report Cards are one portion of the communication process regarding your student's process toward grade level expectations. The report card reflects a comparison of your student's demonstration of understanding in each subject area to each Alberta Program of Study.
Student achievement on the Report Card is documented in two ways:
Proficiency Levels (achievement indicators numbers from 1-4) are explained on the first page of the report card, please review this chart. A teacher uses observations during learning tasks, conversations during learning tasks, and products (stories, mathematical representations, presentations, etc.) that the students complete and then compare these data points to the expectations from the Alberta Program of Studies to determine which Proficiency Level best reflects each student’s understanding. Teachers use the most recent, consistent evidence of student understanding when determining which level best reflected a student’s current overall understanding.
Descriptive Comments explain the items the teacher would like you to know regarding both Areas of Success and Areas for Growth.

Assessment and Reporting at the CBE
We know it is important for parents/guardians to understand how their children are doing in school. Research shows that students are more successful with active parent/guardian involvement.
The report card is one component in communicating student learning. In addition to the report card, schools communicate with parents/guardians about student progress on an ongoing basis in a variety of ways.
Assessment happens every day, in every classroom, throughout the school year. Assessing a student’s progress is one of the most important ways we support the continued learning of our students.
We have developed some resources related to assessment and report cards, and to help you learn more about your child's learning. As more resources are developed, you will find them here.
Digital report cards are available through MyCBE. For help with accessing student assessment and reporting information, please refer to the information in the MyCBE Technical Support for Students & Parents Support website.
