Planning for the 2024-2025 School Year is underway! Plans for each school year need to take many items into consideration. Considerations include, but are not limited to:

  • feedback from families during School Council Meetings and conference times with teachers and administrators,
  • casual conversations between staff and families,
  • class size,
  • fire regulations,
  • administrative regulations within the Calgary Board of Education,
  • as well as union policies regarding assignable time for teaching staff.

Next year, 2024-2025, Colonel Sanders is growing, and we will be welcoming more students to our school! We have already begun the process of welcoming our new students and families. These interactions ensure that the new students and families have an introduction to our school, as well as the school learning about our new community members.

Colonel Sanders School will be moving to events which we are calling a Learning Journey. These events will replace the Winter/Christmas and Spring Concerts.

Each grade level, along with our music specialist, have selected a specific date for each grade level’s Learning Journey. The timeframe for each Learning Journey will be 4:00-5:30.

Colonel Sanders staff have selected the Learning Journey dates for the upcoming school year. Please take note of each grade level's date.

  • Grade 3 – October 17, 2024
  • Grade 4 – February 6, 2025
  • Grade 1 – February 27, 2025
  • Grade 2 – April 24, 2025

On these evenings, if your student is sharing their Learning Journey with you, you must ensure you are present for the presentation if you decide to attend as a family. This is not a drop off event, an adult must be present with their student.

Each Learning Journey will have two parts: a musical and classroom component.

A Learning Journey shows families how students are learning and what they are learning. This is not a showcase of perfect, completed work. It shows families where students are within their learning at that moment and how they are working toward learning targets.

When students are in the gym for the music component of the Learning Journey, we will have room for family members to observe as there will only be one grade level sharing at each event. This will allow us to still meet our fire code regulation for seated members. More information will come home closer to the date of your students Learning Journey sharing details about tickets for the event.
