Message from the office

As a school, our job is to ensure that all 370 students are safe. At the end of the school day there is an important way that you can support this work.

At the end of the day, please do not take students out of any line. Teachers place students onto buses. They account for each student. If a student is removed from the line and the teacher was not informed, we then need to call parents and hold buses until we know the student is safe. This then causes our buses to be delayed. It is best if you write a note in the agenda to inform your teacher that you will be picking up your student. You can also call the school prior to 3:20 p.m. to give this information to the office. The school's phone number is 403-777-6034

Teachers would love to talk to their families, at the end of the school day when teachers are ensuring student safety by taking students to their buses is not the right time. Students who are being picked up are being supervised by our specialists at the ball wall. All teachers are busy ensuring student safety.

If you would like to talk to your student's teacher, please book an appointment. This could be done by emailing your teacher or writing a note in the agenda.

Lastly, tomorrow is Friday. Our school day ends at 1:20 p.m. If you are picking up your students, please arrive promptly for 1:20 p.m.

Soft Entry

Our grade level doors will be open each day beginning at 8:55 a.m. and will close at 9:05 a.m. If your student is arriving after 9:05 a.m., they will need to enter the school through the main door, proceed to the office to get a welcome slip and then go to their classroom. School begins at 9:10am which means that students are seated within their classrooms ready to learn. If students are entering past 9:05am, they will not be ready to learn by 9:10am. Busing has been arranged for a target arrival time at 8:55 a.m.

School Hours

Our grade level doors will be open from 8:55 a.m. - 9:05 a.m., and after this time students will need to enter the building through the main door and get a welcome slip as students will not be ready to learn by 9:10am if they are not in the school at 9:05 a.m.

Please arrive at least 5 minutes early and wait with your student (do not leave them unattended). At the end of the day, please also arrive about 5 minutes early and wait for the bus to arrive. The bus does not need to wait for you to arrive, students in grade 1 and up are let off at their bus stop. If you have not yet received information, please access your MyCBE account and click on transportation.

Drop Off and Pick Up - Car

Parents please do not park on Northmount Drive on the side that is closest to the school, this is the bus zone. We need to keep this area clear before and after school for our yellow school buses. There is also a city bus that stops on Northmount Drive. Great places to park your car to walk students to their grade level door are on Terry Road and Thornhill Drive, there are breaks in the fence that enable your student to walk safely to their grade level door without walking across a street.

Beginning on Tuesday, September 5 a staff member will create and monitor a crosswalk on Trafford Drive. Please ensure that you are walking across the street between the pylons. We have created this area to ensure student safety.

Important Information Regarding Attendance for TLC Students

As per section 7 (I) of the Education Act, it is mandatory for all students between the ages of 6 and 16 to attend school regularly and it is the parent(s)/guardian’s legal responsibility to ensure this happens.

TLC students MUST attend school for the first three days of September. If a student does not attend for the first three days, they will be withdrawn from the TLC program and replaced with someone on the callback list.

For example: If your student attends the first day, then is absent on the second day, they will be withdrawn from the TLC program and replaced with someone who is able to attend on a regular basis.

TLC students MUST attend school for a minimum of 70% of the month of September. If a student attends for less than 70% the student will be withdrawn from the TLC program. At times, depending on the reason for the absences, an Attendance Improvement Plan will be created to increase attendance.

If you are planning on traveling during the school year, a conversation must occur. The conversation needs to be with the Principal and/or the Assistant Principal. An email to the school is not considered a conversation; a conversation is a scheduled in-person meeting, a scheduled Microsoft Teams meeting, or a scheduled telephone conversation.

Please note:  if you are travelling for longer than 1 month at one time, you MUST cancel your transportation fees for that month prior to your departure.  Please email cbetransportationservices@cbe.ab.ca or log into your MyCBE account to cancel your transportation for the months that you are away.

Absences

Please continue to call in any absences to the school. Accurate attendance is needed, please provide a reason for your child's absence (ex: medical appointment, ill or parent concerns regarding COVID).Without a reason, the absence is marked unexcused. It is important that we know why your student is not attending school and this information is in PowerSchool accurately.

Please ensure that your child is dressed for the weather (including snow pants), as this supports a productive play during recess
